Note to self: Bidets (the little hose things on toilets) are not for showering

On my adventures through South East Asia I found a plethora of comedic material in the form of misspelled or odd signs. I saw many unusual delicacies such as “coc juice” and “peartits” which I recall seeing on a menu in Ho Chi Minh City, I also tried some delicious ice cream in Hanoi from the local “I cream” parlor. But I think my favorite sign to date is the one below. If you weren’t sure, don’t stand on the toilet, wash your feet in the toilet and just incase you wanted to cool off from the hot Cambodian heat- don’t shower in the toilet. Thanks for the tip.

Eating like a peasant Antoinette

What is more comforting on a cold winters night than a warm apple crumble. Unfortunately, the majority of uni students cannot afford to treat themselves with this golden crumbed delight. Not to worry, while most people procrastinate by joining irrelevant facebook groups (ie. The group titled “I want to punch people who walk slow in the back of the head”) I ponder ways to make myself a heavily economized apple crumble using the meager ingredients of my severely malnourished cupboards. So here it is:

Ingredients:

• 1 apple
• 1 tablespoon of honey
• ½ a teaspoon of cinnamon
• 1 scotch finger

Method:

• Using a grater shred up the apple and put it in a bowl.
• Add honey and cinnamon
• Put it in the microwave on high for 1 minute
• Take it out and crush the scotch finger on top

If you are a diy fiend, a communications/writing student or appreciator of the written word you have probably heard that the sydney writers festival is on this week/weekend. there are alot of interesting and free (except for miss Greer, i hear some people are paying the $30 plus ticket price just to heckle, and others are forking out the same just to hear her, well, own them.) little seminars, readings etc to attend. If you are too see anything at all i highly suggest you hit up the zine fair at the mca. do it. there will be much self - published goodness, people to chat to and swap with and live music. I am kinda excited to hear culture club's Craig Shuftan and zine queen Vanessa Berry's little talks. programs are avaliable at the venue.

On a Sunday.

I still am kicking myself for not bringing my camera on my walk up to addison rd on sunday. I should permantly attach it to a fancy necklace or something. It could make a nice pendant. It is a nice shiny pink. Anyway, Marrickville Organic food markets came as a wee surprise to me as I set out to devour the resources of Marrickville Reverse Garbage depot, which, by the way is fantastic for any sort of bowerbirds, artists, thrifters, crafters etc. The depot is a not - for - profit community run business so the basic idea is to cut down waste. You grab a bag, fill it with anything from material scraps to glass bottles and then just pay a small amount based on how full your bag is. For example, my booty included a gold bow brooch, some small brown glass jars, a crystal castles poster and a purple belt. The price? $2. Love it. The markets were definatley the highlight. Organic food at teeny tiny prices, a chai tea stall complete with round pillows to perch on and a swathe of shiny vintagey clothing as well as books, records and pre loved furnature with the old and wise smell. Also on the addison rd site is a small art gallery housing creations made from recycled items and a co -op full of all kinds of second hand items (i actually found the VHS of the rescuers for 50c which I did not buy and am now regretting wholeheartedly. sigh.) due to a lack of photos I took a picture (a terrible one, I know) of some flowers I purchased at the market at 3 for $5. I was sick of the lack of flora in the apartment. yay for colour and slight scent.
